About Jaipur

Jaipur, known as the Pink City, is the capital of Rajasthan state in northwest India. Jaipur lies 260 km (160 miles) from Delhi, and can be reached from Delhi by a 4-5 hour drive in private car or by a 45 minute plane flight. A vibrant modern city in the midst of the Rajastani desert, Jaipur’s unique combination of ancient charm and modern sophistication make it a popular destination for visitors from around the world. Built of pink stucco, this colorful city has served as a commerce center for centuries and is known for its extensive gem trade. Visitors today can enjoy visiting the extensive collection of unique shops and crafts.

The city served as the stronghold of a clan of rulers whose three hill forts and series of palaces today provide a stunning backdrop to the bustling capital city. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur was the first planned city in India, and the city is truly remarkable among Indian cities. Jaipur, with its rich and colourful past, resplendent with tales of valour and bravery is now one of the most important heritage cities in India, and is popular among tourists coming to India. Many delegates for “Making Way for the Feminine” may wish to plan addition time before or after the Summit to experience all that Jaipur, and the state of Rajasthan, have to offer.
