Giving Global Voice to Eastern Wisdom
A Hindu-Buddhist Partnership For a More Compassionate World
Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia – February 12th-15th, 2009
On Feb. 12-15, 2009, Hindu and Buddhist spiritual leaders will gather in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for the purpose of building a stronger global voice for the shared wisdom of the Eastern religious traditions – wisdom very much needed now to address the pressing global problems.
This gathering is being organized as a think tank rather than a formal conference as we hope to stimulate a deep sharing and reflection on how our collective actions can be of benefit to the world. We are working with the Acharya Sabha in India, the office H.H. Sangharaja Bour Kry in Cambodia and ITRI in Japan in the creation of a guiding vision for this gathering. Cambodia was chosen as the site of this Summit because of its rich Hindu past, its current status as one of the few remaining Buddhist countries in the world today, and because of its efforts to recover from the near eradication of the Buddhist leadership during its civil war. Beneath the pain and suffering of that recent strife, there is a sacredness to the land of Cambodia that can be re-energized for the good of its people, the region and the world. May our gathering there play a role in helping this spiritual energy re-emerge.
