Summit Themes and Goals

The world community is beginning a process of transformation. Numerous initiatives are underway to facilitate this process. Visionary leadership is needed to help guide this effort, which will offer a positive new direction for the human community.  It will deepen understanding of the oneness of life and the underlying unity of the human community, of the inner connections that link us one to another. It will also renew our understanding of the innate dignity of the earth and all its life systems so that we learn once again to listen to the earth and respond accordingly. By seeing the interconnections between all beings, our vision of progress and development will change, as compassion and care become intrinsic components of our economies.

Similarly, our educational systems will shift to preparing young people not only for jobs and careers but for living and development of their whole Self—keys for happiness and wellbeing. One of the most important aspects in this shift in understanding is the incorporation of the principle of Ahimsa into all domains of life. Ahimsa goes beyond common definitions of nonviolence and applies to a way of being that is in harmony with the inner self and the outer world. Indeed, it sees the outer as a reflection of the inner. Therefore the violence in the outer world is a mere mirroring of what is taking place within us. To bring peace to our communities and nations, we must first establish peace within and bring greater balance to our mental framework. The honoring of the feminine principle is key to this process. The feminine is the receptacle, the energy that holds the space for transformation. It is time to allow the feminine to emerge, to embrace it, each one of us, male and female alike, so that we can bring greater balance to the dual forces of nature and of our being, the masculine and feminine, the yin and yang. This is all part of the process of transformation into a more peaceful, caring and sustainable world community.

Making Way for the Feminine for the Benefit of the World Community will explore six themes as avenues for vital, life-giving transformation to create a balance honoring the feminine energy. Making Way for the Feminine for the Benefit of the World Community will manifest global change by awakening the feminine principle through these avenues:

  • Visionary Leadership is leadership that can help shift thought and behavior— "The world we have made as a result of the level of thinking we have done thus far creates problems that we cannot solve at the same level as which we have created them . . . We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humankind is to survive.” —Albert Einstein

  • Oneness is the force that unifies all creation. What happens to one part, one individual, one eco system, affects all others. Therefore we must tend to the whole and care for every part. The individual exists in the whole and the whole exists in the individual.

  • Ahimsa & Satyagraha (Sanskrit words for “nonviolence” and “holding to Truth”)—Gandhi referred to Satyagraha as the Truth force, or Love force. These terms describe a way of being and living that is in keeping with the highest values, including respect for all life, humility, love and service and can be helpful in identifying universal values that can be embraced by all cultures and people.

  • Self-Evolution, or Education of the Complete Person seeks to develop in young people more than material and intellectual skills. It provides the foundation for balanced and healthful living, offering skills for emotional and spiritual development so that young people will be better able to face life’s challenges and understand their life’s purpose and goals.

  • Creating an Economy of Care, Redefining Progress and Development are essential if we are to bridge the growing gap between rich and poor, use more wisely the Earth’s resources and reverse the environmental decline. Economic abuses and disparities fuel conflict and violence, which can be countered by shifting the focus from material consumption to human development.

  • Listening to the Earth, Honoring Earth’s Life Systems will enable us to regain understanding of the life force that sustains our planet and its inhabitants. By re-tuning ourselves to the natural systems we will know how to adjust our societies to minimalize the changes resulting from global warming and find alternatives that are more sustainable.
