GPIW continues our partnership with the Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association (DDMBA) in
organizing the fifth gathering in The Inner Dimensions of Climate Change series in Cyprus this October.
This meeting is dedicated to bringing together 25 young ecologists from the Middle East who will also be joined by young people from
previous Inner Dimensions gatherings.
The mentors who will be in attendance are from a variety of backgrounds and professions including interfaith teachers and scholars, agronomists, social and environmental activists, artists, organizers, and scientists. We welcome this new group of young ecologists, activists, and climate specialists to discuss and reflect on the shifts of heart and mind necessary to come into a deeper relationship with the Earth.
Participants will travel from Turkey, Qatar, Cyprus, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Kuwait, Tunisia, Morocco, Yemen, Iraq, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Oman and Saudi Arabia, bringing their unique perspectives that we hope will converge and illuminate others’ experiences throughout the five-day retreat and dialogue. The goal of this program will be to form a network in the Middle East that can then connect to the larger group of participants from the series of regional meetings, creating friendships and the possibility for collaborative projects. Cyprus is the birth place of the Goddess Aphrodite and is known for its natural beauty. We have selected the Akamas Peninsula and nature preserve near the coastal city of Paphos knowing that through deepening our connection to nature we will be able to awaken the love and inspiration needed to act more effectively to protect our planet.
