A Conversation with Judy Lief

We are delighted to invite Judy Lief to an online conversation on
November 5th, to share some thoughts on what this past year and half
has meant in her own life and how it relates to her practice as a
meditator and spiritual teacher. We will also explore how, through
mindfulness and meditation, we can continually come back to our own
nature and to a deeper relationship to the Earth.

In the past, GPIW has had the honor of engaging Judy Lief in dialogues
on spirituality and the environment during the UN COP Climate Change
meetings.

Judy Lief is a Buddhist teacher in the tradition of Chögyam Trungpa
Rinpoche and hosts a podcast called "Dharma Glimpses" which is
available wherever you listen to podcasts.

Right Livelihood: Moving Toward a Regenerative Economy

Opportunities and Models in Career and Entrepreneurship for Young People

with Charles Eisenstein, Shashank Kalra, and Vibhuti Aggarwal

Young people today are facing great challenges. On the one hand, we have rising unemployment that will only increase in the years ahead due to automation and artificial intelligence. On the other hand, as a human society we have reached the limits of our current extractive economic model - where so many livelihoods are harming people and life on the planet. More and more young people are not feeling aligned spiritually or emotionally with careers focused on material excess. We are being called to develop a new paradigm of 'Work' - a regenerative approach to livelihoods that heals people, communities, and the planet. How can each of us support the process of actualizing a regenerative economy and way of life?

We invite you into an imaginative conversation with Charles Eisenstein, author of the groundbreaking and fascinating book, ‘Sacred Economics’ . Shashank Kalra and Vibhuti Aggarwal of the Youth Alliance of India will facilitate and guide the session.

The questions we will hold:
  • How can a society better allow the gifts of the emerging generations to be nurtured and dovetailed into Right Livelihoods, meaning careers that are fulfilling and generative for the individual and society as a whole?

  • How can we support younger generations in building successful, sustainable careers that honor their natural skills and abilities? How do we instill a foundation of integrity, compassion, joy and meaning into the work they do? How do we help them discover their gifts and where they would be of use?

We invite you to share this program with young people who might have interest in this theme.

We also are seeking active financial support for this program and others from our network of friends, foundations and business leaders. If you like these programs please consider making a gift to GPIW to allow more and more of such dialogues. We hope this first talk will spark great interest and that this series can continue with other speakers and mentors later this year and into next year.

This conversation takes place during the COP26 UN Climate Summit in taking place in Glasgow with support from ITRI-USA. GPIW faced challenges in bringing a delegation to Scotland for this meeting, but wanted to focus on ways we can address the climate crisis together, in our change of behavior, in our shifting of consumerist habits and in encouraging broader thinking and practical ways of supporting the younger generation for whom the climate crisis is of utmost importance.

When? Saturday, November 6th, 2021
9:00AM - 12:00 PM EST
3:00PM - 6:00 PM CET
6:30PM - 9:30 PM IST

We hope you will join us for these dialogues.
