A Conversation with Contemplative Leaders
Moderated by Shephali Patel

A few weeks ago the Global Peace Initiative brought together some of the key women spiritual teachers who were with us at our founding gathering nearly 20 years ago. We asked them to provide insight into some of the positive shifts as we entered a new year. The sacred feminine has always been a key part of GPIWs work, and more recently we have begun to focus on how to access the higher, or sacred masculine energy, as the balance between the two is essential for a more harmonious and healthy society.

To achieve this balance in our work, we have now asked some of the men who have been a central part of GPIW to share their insights regarding this time of transition that we find ourselves in. There is much that is unknown about what lies ahead, but we do know that at the local and global levels shifts are underway that will impact the way we live and work. We will hear from the spiritual leaders who have helped shape our work over the years, including Swami Atmarupananda, Bhante Buddharakkita, Sraddhalu Ranade, Tiokasin Ghosthorse, Eddie Stern, Rabbi Rami Shapiro, Rev. Kosen Greg Snyder, Fr. Adam Bucko, Robert Toth, and Raghu Ananthanarayanan.

Our hope and expectation is that these shifts will lead to greater appreciation, love and care for earth and all her extended life forms.

The Inner Dimensions of Climate Change: Latin America

We are delighted to present our new young leader and friend, Juan Pablo Restrepo, who will be organizing a series of online events in the spirit of
The Inner Dimension of Climate Change gatherings organized by GPIW and DDMBA and ITRI, USA. Juan Pablo has been a philosopher and yoga practitioner for 15 years. He has taught Yoga and AcroYoga extensively throughout Latin America and is the founder of the School of Interpersonal Yoga, which emphasizes a relational perspective on Yoga. He has participated in retreats in the Indo-Tibetan tradition around the world and is currently practicing Zen Buddhism under the guidance of Daniel Terragno and Taigen Dan Leighton. He is passionate about body movement, contemplative practices, poetry and the geography of Argentine/Chilean Patagonia, where he currently lives.

Juan Pablo has been working alongside Madeleine Wolff and Edelmira lmira Altube to develop Spiritual Ecologies from the South, a series of eight dialogues spread out over eight weeks aimed to reflect on the spiritual implications of the ecological crisis, look at possible responses, and create a supportive network of ecological leaders in South America. Each encounter will be led by a guest speaker who will open the dialogue around the ecological crisis as seen from a specific spiritual perspective. These dialogues will focus on the personal changes that can be made, the political and economic structures that generate harm, and different perspectives and worldviews that foster change. A rich addition to the program is a call to the participants to respond to each session with a creative piece that embodies how they have been touched and transformed by the dialogue. The program will be held in Spanish. For anyone interested to know more about this and future programs in Latin & South America please contact Juan Pablo at juanacroyoga@gmail.com
